WEEK2: CONTRAST and COMPOSITION




Contrast: Why is it necessary?

    • Creates interest
    • Directs eye towards the main Focal Point
    • Reason we can see and therefore the viewer can react to what they see
    • Without contrast, the audience loses track visually
  • Ways to create Contrast:
    • Light vs Dark
    • Changes in Scale
    • Differences in Shape
    • Complex vs Simple
    • Focus vs Out of Focus (Bokeh)

HOMEWORK:

  • 2-Value screen cap studies (Black and White only, No Transfer, limited use of the Gradient tool) - keep each under 2mins
  • 90 movie stills (3 different films 30 each) + 10 detailed
  • Print 90 on 1 sheet, 10 detailed on 2 or more sheets
    • Examples:
  • 30 Photography studies (more than 1 photographer) + 3 detailed
  • Print 30 on 1 sheet, 3 detailed on another sheet
